MOVIE MAGIC : Shopaholic...
This week's book is "The Secret Dreamworld of A Shopaholic" by Sophie Kinsella. (published in America as "True Confessions of a Shopaholic") I've decided to cast four main characters, and of course I'd hope for the actors to sign up for the series of films! Now as it's a British book I pondered for quite a while over whether to use British actors only, but remembering Renee as Bridget I decided I'd allow myself the slghtly wider pool of actors from... well... anywhere in the world (just imagine they can do perfect accents!)
There's no other place to start but with Becky. I first considered Michelle Williams, but wasn't quite sure that she could quite convey the scattiness I straight away picture when I think about Becky Bloomwood. I ended up deciding on Rachel Bilson - whilst she's best known for her role in teen drama 'The O.C.', Rachel is actually almost 25. She's definitely proven her ability to play scatty and she has the style that would lend herself to Becky.
Next up is Luke. I went against a lot of my sensibilities here (so what if the ages don't quite match up) and cast another Luke... Luke Wilson. I think he'd play successful businessman well, and would obviously cope well with the more comedic side of the part.
Suze, Becky's best friend, was another one who made me think for quite a while. I settled in the end for Kirsten Dunst.
Tarquin, last but not least, was less difficult to cast. Now whilst I'm sure he doesn't quite match many other people's image of Tarquin, for me the part has to go to Jeremy Sheffield. There's something very British about him that made him spring to mind.

I think Rachel Bilson would make a great Becky, and Kirsten Dunst as Suze. Don't know the male actors though..

Well, I think your cast sounds pretty good i always thouth of Becky Bloomwood as a grown up Cheer from Clueless. I can totally see alicia silverstone as Becky. As Suze has to defenetly be Kristen Dunst, and the rest of the cast you are right on point howver the guy from that 70's show Eric i think he would be a great tariq.

Rachel Bilson! I never would have thought of her but I think you might be onto something there. If this ever did get made into a film, I bet they'd do the same as with 'Can You Keep A Secret' and make the lead character an American anyway. I remember Sophie Kinsella once saying in an interview she'd cast Drew Barrymore as Becky.
If you're casting Luke Wilson, does that mean I get to meet Owen? Can't we find a bit part for him somewhere?!
I always pictured Luke as a young, pre-JLo Ben Affleck. So how about Chris Evans (from Fantastic 4, not the ginger telly presenter, obviously) who pretty much IS the new Affleck. He'd be good with Rachel Bilson, I think.

i imagined becky to be anne hathaway.. i think she is quirky and really pretty
and luke should be played by dermot mulroney =) love kirsten as suze!

I hate Kirsten Dunst, I think she is the worst actress EVER! I would recommend Reese Witherspoon for Suze. She is a much better choice and somehow depicts the exact image I have for Suze.

Rachel Bilson would be make a perfect Becky. I have to agree that I can't really see Kristen Dunst as Suze. I think you should go with an unknown british actress. Also for Luke, don't get Luke Wilson. He is NOTHING like Luke Brandon. You definitely need a british actor for his role. I think Jeremy Sheffield would make a better Luke Brandon!

Luke Wison as Luke very fine with le ( i also though of Michael Vartan or Matthew fox)
as for becky i was picturing a more 'fragile' person such as Natalie Portman
As for suze : Kristen is ok i guess...
As for tarkin i was picturing Rhys Ifans

Luke- the first time I read Luke's description, I instantly thought of Luke Wilson. It could be because of his name but most likely his serious look. Plus, i saw a picture of him in Blue Streak (one of his movies) and he looks exactly like a Luke for Becky! Furthermore, romantic comedies are right up his alley. I also thinking Keanu Reeves would play a good Luke because he's usually serious in his movies, isn't he? He's good looking too and is good in love-making scenes.
Becky- Rachel Bilson could be Becky, but I was expecting someone who looks a little bit more mature but still have the same personality as Becky.
All in all, I honestly hope that there won't be a movie for Shopaholic. It would only ruin my perfect perception of Luke and Becky.

I totallythink that "keira kgnitley" should play becky bloomowood...i've read the series like 2 and i always pictures keira kngitley for it .
Luke brandon should be played by collin firth , he's pefect for the role , he's has a serious face on screen and he's handsome....blah blah everything about luke .
Suze should be Emily Blunt( emily from the devils wears prada )

i think that guy from the princess diaries 2 .. the guy who plays Nicholas HE is the perfect Luke and Becky mayb Rachel Bilson and Tarquin should be playd by the guy again Princess Diaries 2 the guy who is Mia's boyfriend. i was watching the movie yesterday with my daughter and the idea just popped in my head :)

I DONT think we should get Luke WIlson to play the part of Luke Brandon. He's too much of a funny guy and Luke Brandon is more of a serious buisness man. Same with Rachel Bilson. i feel shes too young to play becky. SUze, mayb Julia Roberts, but not Kirstin DUnst. I like the idea of that other lady who sent a comment earlier about the guy in Princess Diaries 2. Chris Pine. He Also played in Just my luck with Lindsay LOhan. As for Tarquin..im not so sure. OH and for Becky's parents i think they should cast the parents from Sweet Home Alabama you know the people who played Reese WItherspoons parents please if you have any comments add them in..

OMG screw Luke Wilson for Luke Brandon earlier, there was a comment on how Luke BRandon should be played by Micheal Vartan. I totally agree , hes FUn hes sexy and i think he would make the PERFECT luke. please comment on this :D OIMG its brilliant
