So you think you can write romance ...?

We know you all love to read chick lit and romance, but how do you fancy writing it?

Romantic fiction uber-publishers, Avon, are running an online competition to create a collectively written romance e-book. Entitled "FanLit", the competition starts on August 23rd and runs for six weeks (you can sign up here) to receive an email alert nearer the time.

Submitted chapters will be discussed and rated both by readers and by a panel of authors and editors, with the top-rated scenes forming part of the official "Avon Romance FanLit E-book". There are prizes too - some simply for participating (either by writing or by rating).

I haven't established whether UK writers will be permitted to enter (I've asked the question; I'll let you know when I get an answer), but even if we're not, it should still be an interesting read, plus the website features handy romance-writing tips.
