FRIDAY FLICK: Pride and Prejudice

PrideandprejAs promised threatened, this week’s Friday Flick is a Jane Austen adaptation. Or rather, the Jane Austen adaptation: Andrew Davies’s Pride & Prejudice.

Starring Colin Firth as Mr Darcy and Jennifer Ehle as Elizabeth Bennet, this really is the definitive mini-series. Perfectly cast and charmingly acted and with the added bonus of the Firth/Darcy wet-shirt-out-of-the-lake-scene, it’s pure entertainment from start to finish.

If you haven’t seen it, what on earth are you waiting for? Get some drinks, snacks, pyjamas and curl up for a weekend’s viewing. I promise you won’t regret it.

    Over. Rated.

All that extra Darcy means it is not faithful to the book. The book is from Elizabeth&#39s point of view. This miniseries is not.

Give me the 1980 version any day of the week. It&#39s not as pretty to look at, but it&#39s got the story closer to the way Jane wrote it, and that&#39s what matters to me.

  • I am so gonna do that this weekend!

  • Hi

This is my absolute favourite adaption of this novel, and is the definitive one, as far as I am concerned. The actors/actresses are cast perfectly, and Colin Firth is fantastic as Darcy. That lake scene is...mmm! Sorry, I had a flashback of Colin Firth in wet clothes, and got distracted.

I would highly recommend this. It is very long, but really does the book justice. Enjoy!
