Becky Bloomwood is ...

... apparently going to be played by Isla Fisher. I can actually totally see her as Becky, but that's not all.

Becky's apparently also going to be ... American.

There is outrage over on the Sophie Kinsella forum and I'm not surprised. Becky's English. She just is. I'm fine with an Australian actress playing an English character, but I'm not okay with the filmmakers changing the character's nationality. How about you?

(Don't get too worked up, though. This is all as yet unconfirmed.)

Are they crazy? Becky Brandon (nee Bloomwood) is NOT AMERICAN! This will make me NOT want to see the movie. That's just crazy. ANYONE who read any of the series KNOWS. Thats just crazy. But I'm not getting worked up over it... just yet. But still, that's just crazy. Crazy.

So, is it NOT going to be set in London? I don't know what they're thinking. What happens when they make the sequal and the whole NY vs. London thing comes up. It won't work if she's an American.

Im appalled at this information! To change Becky's Nationallity is to change Becky entirely! this acutally makes me no longer excited to even think about seeing this movie!

I couldn´t agree more.
This is stupid because all the shopaholic books except 1 take place in England NOT America. I´m suprised that Sophie Kinsella agreed to making Becky American in the movie.
I hate when you read a book and they make movie out of it and you´re all excited and can´t wait to see the movie but when you do, you realize bunch of things that are alot different from what you read...this is one of those cases.
I´m still gonna see the movie though...because if you´re REALLY into
Sophie´s books, then you have to give the movie a chance right? :) No matter how much you think it will suck...

Oh and one more thing : Why is it a disney movie?? I mean what´s up with that?

I am also surprised that Kinsella agreed to this. I was shocked (and disappointed) when I first saw the promos- to change this aspect of the character is like changing the whole story! I just don't get it. I loved loved loved the series of books but this movie is just not going to measure up.

I agree totally. Becky Bloomwood is British and changing her nationality is madness, again I am very suprised that Sophie Kinsella agreed to this, It would be good to know why she did. I was looking forward to the movie, now im not sure.
