Sometimes I read a synopsis for a book and not only do I think "why didn't I think of that", but also, "I need to read this, like, now!"
Karen Neches' Earthly Pleasures isn't out until February 2008 (noooo!), but you can read the excerpt on her site and I know you'll love it.
Read the synopsis over the cut and tell me if you've heard of a funnier and sweeter idea.
Skye Sebring works in the Hospitality Sector of Heaven and helps her
clients to know “what to expect when they expire.” Ryan Blaine is an
ex-president’s son, who calls a lovelorn radio show every night to
mourn his fiancée who hasn’t been the same since a tragic car accident.
When Ryan takes a spill on his motorcycle, he “dies” for a few moments,
and meets Skye. Skye becomes intrigued with Ryan and keeps track of his
him via a reality program for Heaven dwellers called Earthly Pleasures,
which dramatizes the lives of popular Earthlings.
Meanwhile, Skye is terrified to be assigned her very first life on
Earth. She takes Earth 101 classes, which teaches all of the world’s
greatest philosophies through five Beatle [sic] songs.
