BOOK NEWS: The Little Lady Finds Her Prince by Hester Browne
Ooh! Ooh! How excited am I? News about the third Little Lady Agency book. Unfortunately, it's not due out until January next year, but here's a synopsis to whet our appetites:
Honey's grandmother has asked her to take on the case of a lifetime: namely improving Prince Nicolas of Hollenberg - Europe's most playboy of princes - who, despite his good breeding, is completely set on leading Melissa astray. And all this blue blood is making her fiance, Jonathan, finally see red.
And this isn't all that's on Mel's plate. She's trying to set up her flatmate Nelson with a nice girl; her increasingly-bonkers family are making all sorts of demands on her; her best friend Gabi is getting married! Oh, and she has her own fairytale ending to find. Can Mel rise to the challenge of reforming Prince Charmless? Will the Little Lady Agency survive? And has her own prince been there all along?

Hello - and thanks so much for being excited! I don't think it's been changed yet on Amazon yet, but the new title is actually What The Lady Wants - it's very romantic and features not one, but two proposals, and even some love action for Roger Trumpet...

Thanks for the tip-off. I just ordered books #2 and #3 for the library where I work. We (American libraries) don't always recieve much promotional info on English books, so I had missed the second one. The first was thoroughly enjoyed by our readers!
If I may re-introduce a topic from the "Hester Brown Guest Blog" - concerning rewrites for an American edition: We Americans are not ALL so big-headed that we need every pop-culture reference deleted or replaced (although I will admit, there are those...) Personally, I think deciphering those references is part of the fun of reading the book, so unless the reference is vital to my understanding of the character, I vote for leaving the text as is. Even some American books - Janet Evanovich's "Stephanie Plum" series, for example - contain regional references and idioms that don't translate to my part of the country, but they add to the "feel" of the story. In my head, Stephanie speaks with a distinct New Jersey accent and Honey's voice is totally British, so their references should be also.
Thanks, Hester, for a wonderful series. My patrons and I are anxious to catch up with Honey!

Thanks, Hester! And I am looking forward to Trumpet love action... (that's not something you hear every day!) ;)
And thanks, Tami. I totally agree re UK/US translations. I think it's rather patronising to assume that American readers won't understand "Britishisms" in context.
I don't think it's done the other way round so much. I think because it's assumed British people are exposed to so much US culture via TV and film that we know all the references anyway!

Can I just add - nervously! - that the UK/US adjustments tend to be made at the US editorial stage, by US editors, and not in some hoity-toity 'Oh, they won't get that...!' UK writers' convention?

I'm not a bit surprised. SOME Americans can tend to be hoity-toity about anything non-American - like the British version of the English language, for example. Duh - why do you think we call it "English"?? However, take heart - there is a large (and perhaps too silent) population of librarians and avid readers who are willing and able to interpret for ourselves.

LOL, Hester! No, I know it's nothing to do with you!
And, Tami, I thought librarians were supposed to be silent... ;)

Thanks for the heads-up on the new title. I have thoroughly enjoyed the first two Little Lady books and have recommended them countless times. I'll be watching for the third!

Hi! I just found this blog, and I thought I'd say that I'm reading the Little Lady series for a college course and I can't wait to get my hands on the next book! It sounds AWESOME!
