Harlequin go e-book crazy

Harlequin have announced they will make their entire frontlist catalogue available on e-book, publishing both print and digital books at a rate of 120 per month.

Lucie commented yesterday that e-books are not really the green option they’re supposed to be as people tend not to recycle electrical products, and there are a lot of heavy metals and plastic that go into their production.

I haven’t tried one but I don’t think I’d like to read a book from a screen. I’m sure it would be tiring on the eyes, and nothing could replace the sensual pleasure of a book.

Harlequin go e-book crazy - Comments

  • Me

I lost all my books in a hurricane, so this time around I&#39ve decided to use e-books. I bought a Cy-book which has no backlight so it&#39s like reading a normal book, and I love it. When I went to the hairdresser&#39s I pulled it out my purse and started reading. It&#39s easier to have 60 books and counting on my cy-book than lugging around one hardback book that breaks the shoulder strap on my purse. Now if I could only figure out which one I want to read. Also you can sneak it under your desk and read while you&#39re working.

I don&#39t like e-books but I just bought and downloaded 4 because they only came as e-books. Reading a book on a computer screen takes away the pleasure of the book experience so I plan on printing them out double-sided. Plus I sit in front of a computer screen all day at work and don&#39t want it involved in my unwinding and relaxing moments.

  • I agree with you Lucie - there will be people who like the gadgety side of them, and others who like the convenience (I won&#39t be one of them though!)

  • I think having books available in both digital format and print is a good idea. Those who don&#39t like reading off a screen can read the paper book, and those who prefer to save space on their bookshelf can read the digital book. I do believe e-books are becoming much more popular, but I really don&#39t think that they&#39ll replace print books anytime soon.
