Literary one hit wonders

41c8a0j5rkl_sl500_aa240_Lauren Belfer's City of Light is one of of my favourite books of all time. It was published in 1999 and, since then, I have waited in vain for another book from Ms Belfer.

I was thinking about it this morning and it made me wonder ... who are your favourite literary one hit wonders? Whose second novel have you been longing for? And has anyone else read City of Light?

The best book I&#39ve ever read was Summer Sisters...I know the author has written PLENTY of young adult books but this one was truly fantastic.

  • Paula Roegge

I have to agree that most 2nd and 3rd books (not talking about the Harry Potter series here, of course) rarely live up to the promise of the 1st novel. Having said that, however, I just finished Peace Like A River by Leif Enger. I was barely a third of the way into the book before I was checking the net to see if he had written any more books. Not a sequel, necessarily, but any books whatsoever! This guy can WRITE! The plot is about as far from chick lit as you can get, but the writing is enough to make you cry, that&#39s how good he is. And his description of heaven is enough to make you believe in God if you don&#39t already.

  • Megan! It made me want to move to Buffalo too! I even had a really vivid dream about it!

    I haven&#39t read that one, Tami - I&#39ll check it out. :)

  • I loved City of Light! It made me want to move to Buffalo. And I&#39ve never met anyone else who&#39s read it. Thank you so much for reminding me about this book-- I may need to re-read it!
