BOOK NEWS: When Will There Be Good News?

Kate_atkinson_when_will_there_be_goFor those of you who like Kate Atkinson's hero, Jackson Brodie, you'll be delighted to know he's back in a new book out in August.

On a hot summer day, Joanna Mason's family slowly wanders home along a country lane. A moment later, Joanna's life is changed forever...On a dark night thirty years later, ex-detective Jackson Brodie finds himself on a train that is both crowded and late. Lost in his thoughts, he suddenly hears a shocking sound...At the end of a long day, 16-year-old Reggie is looking forward to watching a little TV. Then a terrifying noise shatters her peaceful evening...These three lives come together in unexpected and deeply thrilling ways

Is it me or does the cover look really depressing? See over the cut for the more attractive US version.

  • I just got a proof copy of this novel, and am about halfway through it. It&#39s a worthy companion to Atkinson&#39s other Jackson Brodie novels. I am amazed at her ability to make you care about a character in just a few pages! And I agree that the US cover is slightly better, but was this really the best they could come up with?

Not wild about either cover either, but cannot wait to read this. I just read Case Histories in May and I absolutely loved it, so I&#39m looking forward to more from Kate Atkinson!

  • I&#39m not wild about either of them. I think the UK cover looks like a Jane Smiley book and the US looks like Jodi Picoult or Elizabeth Berg. I tend to think of Kate Atkinson as an original and I think she should have more original covers!

  • Tami - you&#39re right. I&#39ll add in the US cover over the cut. Thanks!
