Spread The Word 2009
As with last year, the people behind World Book Day have compiled a list of books designed to get you talking. They have a long list of fifty titles for you to vote on, which will be reduced to a shortlist of ten. Included in the list is Julie Buxbaum's The Opposite of Love and one I particularly like the look of, The Good Plain Cook by Bethan Roberts. Last year's winner was Boy A by Jonathan Trigell.
Anyway, you should go and vote for your favourite, you could win £100 of book tokens.

I loved the Opposite of Love and when I went to vote for it I found a really, really pleasant surprise. The website 'chooses' books for you - by rotating them on a banner - and I was 'given' Marina Fioratos' The Glassblower of Murano which I had a look at and instantly went and bought. It's a remarkable book, taking you right into the heart of Venice and it's ancient complex politics. The narrative is split between a 17th Century glassblower and his 2008 ancestor, and you discover some dark secrets.
I couldn't put it down, and have recommended it to so many people recently, so hope that you enjoy it too.
I've now voted for 2 of the books and am looking forward to finding some more great ones before voting ends on 2nd Jan!
