BOOK NEWS: Going It Alone

Going_it_aloneI might be judging a book by it's cover (so to speak), but I've just seen the synopsis for Clare Dowling's new book and couldn't help but feel that a plot concerning a woman and her ticking biological clock is a little tired...

Millie's biological clock has been ticking for some time, and on the eve of her fortieth birthday the alarm bell starts ringing. She needs to have a baby and fast, but after months of fruitless trying, her husband Andrew is feeling like a walking sperm bank and their marriage is in crisis. Matters come to a head when Andrew's job relocates to London and Millie decides that if he won't stick around to get her pregnant, then she'll do it without him.

What do you think? Exciting plot or been there done that?

  • Well, I think it has a new twist on the subject with her deciding to do it on her own...without her husband. We&#39ve certainly had stories of women going it alone when there is no husband or prospective husband, but this is a new take on it. I can see how it could lead to a lot of drama and perhaps a marriage on the rocks. So, I think this could be an exciting twist on a "been there done that" plot. Basically, it all comes down to the writing because, really, everything&#39s been done before in some way, shape or form. Personally, I&#39m all about bonding with the main character. If I dig her, I can follow her to the laundramat and find it fun and exciting!
