NaNoWriMo is almost here!
It's mid-October, and as thousands of aspiring writers across the globe know, it's time for NaNoWriMo. NaNoWriMo, short for National Novel Writing Month, takes place every November (from the 1st -30th) and challenges entrants to write a novel of a minimum 50,000 words in thirty days.
Yep, a whole novel in one month.
Are you up for it? If so, check out the official
website of National Novel Writing Month, where you can get more information
about the month-long word fest, donate to a good cause, and post in the forums.
There are thousands of fellow writers taking part, with many arranging meet-ups
in areas all across the globe.
NaNoWriMo has produced several published authors, and even if you only
just manage to finish, then you've at least got that first draft! Want to know
more? Well, here's a snippet from the site:
National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to
novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a
175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.
Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over
painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has
thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time
and effort involved.
Because of the limited writing window, the
ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not
quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take
risks, and write on the fly.
Fancy the challenge? Then head on over to sign up.
Are YOU taking part in NaNoWriMo? Let us know!
