NEWS: Author Zoe Barnes suicide

We've just read the news about the death of chick-lit author Susan Morgan (who wrote novels under the names of Zoe Barnes and Sue Dyson). For those who have not yet heard, Susan took her own life in October last year following the breakp of her marriage.

The Daily Mail today reported that 52-year-old Susan, who wrote 45 novels, was also suffering from ill health. According to the article, a spokesman for her publishers Piatkus stated: 'She was one of the pioneers of chick-lit back in the nineties and has been entertaining her female fans ever since. All her stories were honest and believable with flawed but honourable heroines any woman would want to call a friend.

'She will be sorely missed by everyone who has had the pleasure of working with her through her career as a novelist.'

Zoe (or Sue as I knew her) was a very dear friend of mine and I miss her enormously. Thank you for expressing your condolences - more than a lot of other publishers have!
Just to let you know that some of Sue's work is being exhibited at the National Gallery in the Van Gogh exhibition as she translated some of his letters from French to English.

That's really sad. I think one of Zoe Barnes' early novels was one of the first chick-lit books I read, back when there hardly seemed to be any around. It's a shame she felt she had nothing to live for when she had a lot of talent.
