BOOK NEWS: An Ideal Wife

anidealwife.jpgTrashionista loved Gemma Townley's The Importance of Being Married, the tale of Jessica Wild, who makes it her priority to marry her boss in order to gain a vast inheritance. The book was followed by the sequel, A Wild Affair, in January. Now the third novel in the Jessica Wild series, An Ideal Wife, is set for release in 2011.

Read on for the synopsis...

Married to the man she loves - sweet, sexy Max - Jessica Wild-Wainwright is blissfully happy...except for one tiny little problem. She never confessed to an (almost) tryst with Max's biggest rival right before their wedding. Eaten up with guilt, and with looming threats of exposure, Jessica decides to give Max what he clearly still lacks: the Ideal Wife. With the help of her friends, she will become perfect in every way: doting, devoted, domestic-everything Max deserves. However, the path to perfection is fraught with peril, from culinary chaos to a boudoir disaster that puts Max in the hospital with a broken leg. As Jessica rallies to run Max's company - met with overt hostility by an obsessive co-worker and by an auditor determined to uncover everyone's secrets - things are decidedly less than ideal. Throw in a semi-retired Russian stripper and strange men watching her apartment, and Jessica fears Project Ideal Wife has backfired miserably. Can a less than perfect wife save the day?

BOOK NEWS: An Ideal Wife - Comments

  • Unfortunately, I can't say that this book was good. I have read all of Townley's books and, except for this one (and the previous one) have always enjoyed them. However, she seems to have gotten caught in this series of books with a main character that I can't can't stand. In fact, this book is so incredibly whiny and sexist - as the main character spends the ENTIRE book worrying about the fact that she is not THE IDEAL WIFE and what can she do? despite the fact that serious issues are happening all around her, this is ALL she focuses on and not only does she dwell on it, she whines and whines and whines. UGH! I will be writing my own review shortly, but as you can see, I did not like the book at all.

Hopefully Townley will snap out of it.

  • I don't really understand the need for a series of books most of the time. These put me off. I like to know the end is the end, and I can assume people live happily ever after etc. I find it a little too much of a coincidence that the sister of Sophie Kinsella now has a series based on the one heroine.

That being said, I have enjoyed the Gemma Townley books I have read, I'm just a little dubious about these ones...
