MOVIE NEWS: Vampires Suck

vampiressuck.jpgUnless you've been deprived of all media over the past year or two, you'll know that the vampire craze still seems to be going strong. With Eclipse, the third instalment of the Twilight saga, having just hit our screens , it seems that we're divided into two camps. (And no, NOTHING to do with Edward or Jacob!) There are vampire fans aplenty who seemingly don't want the craze to ever end. And then there's the rest of us, who are living in hope that one day, it'll all die down.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good vampire book (and flick!) and even with the plethora of fiction delving into the lives of teenage vamps and werewolves, there are some hidden gems. But isn't it getting just a little bit tiresome?

Thankfully, upcoming movie Vampires Suck is hopefully set to get rid of some of our vampire-related annoyance. The film, which will hit the UK big screen  on 15th October, parodies hit flicks Twilight. It sees teenager Becca torn between two boys. Here's the synopsis:

Vampires Suck is a comedy about contemporary teen angst and romance movies. Becca, and anxious, non-vampire teen, is torn between two boys. Before she can choose, Becca must get around her controlling father, who embarrasses her by treating her like a child. Meanwhile, Becca's friends contend with their own romantic issues - all of which collide at the prom.

Roll on October!

The twilight series was great. but you have to rememver that stephenie meyer didnt go on any bandwagon she started it! Same thing with harry potter and the books that start those things are good books. that might be why there so famous

  • I've already sean it, definitely love it!

  • Oh, I know, Elle. I have plenty of friends who just adore the Twilight series and other similarly themed paranormal books, but I just think they are really tired. I think it is a matter of publishers jumping on the bandwagon and printing anything with a pair of fangs in it. Unfortunately, this happens in the industry all the time - chick lit was also a victim of this, with lots of bad books getting published just because they were stories of twenty-somethings dating and shopping. The genre was so over-saturated that no one wanted to publish any type of chick lit anymore no matter how good it was. But I think it's starting to make a comeback - in a more selective manner.

So, perhaps the paranormal craze will die out soon, too. But with all those tweens devouring the books like chocolate bon bons, I think it might take some time...

  • I'm the same, Lucie! I know that a lot of people love the craze which is why I report on it here, but in all honesty I'm bored of it. There are some great chick-lit vampire novels that came out before the vampire hype even started, like Blood is the New Black, the Undead series to name a couple. (There are some gems!) But now, it's become so popular that it's boring. Same with TV at the moment!

I think the Young Adult books are the worst right now...there are so many being released; vampire and werewolf teen novels with the same kind of cover and similar storylines. It's a shame because it seems as though they've been 'churned out' to go with the Twilight hype, and many very good books amongst them are unnoticed or avoided.

  • I belong to the camp waiting for this trend to die. I know I am not the target audience for these novels/movies, but the paranormal craze is seeping into everything these days. I was at a bookstore recently looking for anything chick lit that I hadn't already read and that didn't have a supernatural element to it, and it was hard to find! I finally settled on Jill Mansell's Rumor Has It. And it looks to be a good read with absolutely no vampires, werewolves, or warlocks! Yay!
