Sinead1.bmpSinead Moriarty is an Irish author who has penned several novels including In My Sister's Shoes, A Perfect Match and From Here to Maternity. Her latest novel, Pieces of My Heart, was released in January and we absolutely loved it! Naturally, we just had to ask Sinead some questions...

Please describe your latest book in 15 words or fewer.

Its a bitter sweet tale about a family struggling with a life-threatening crisis.

What inspired you to write Pieces of My Heart?
Initially I started thinking about why women have such negative body images,. Why we are all so self -critical. Then I started thinking about passing on a negative body image to your daughter and then I began exploring the world of eating disorders and the more research I did, the more fascinated I became with it and I felt compelled to write an honest portrayal of what's it is like for a family to deal with a crisis like this.

Where do you do most of your writing?

At home in Dublin. I have a little office beside my bedroom, where I lock myself away, hide from my children and write.

What is your favourite book?

Probably Little Women. I always loved Jo March, she was my heroine.

Which part of Pieces of My Heart was the most fun to write, and which was most difficult?

The most fun was Sarah, I loved writing her dialogue, she's so sassy. The most difficult part was when Alison is admitted to the clinic, I actually cried when I wrote that.

What are you currently reading?
Dancer by Colum Mc Cann, he is the most wonderful story-teller. Its a fantastic read.

Who is your favourite heroine?

Its a tie between Jo March and Elizabeth Bennet

Do you have any tips for readers who are looking to become published authors?
I have a ten step guide on my website - www.sineadmoriarty.com. The most important ones:   believe in yourself and write the book!

Are you working on anything else at the moment and if so, can you tell us?

Yes I've just finished the next book which will be out next summer. It's about three sisters and each sister has to deal with a huge change in her life. It covers lots of topics and issues including the recession,  secrets in marriages, unwanted babies ...and probably the main theme which is that women feel invisible after they have children. They lose their identity and often their confidence.

Thanks, Sinead!
