Katie's new novel The Comeback Girl is out next month, and the attempt will take place at the O2 Academy in Leeds at 11am on Wednesday, 27th July. Katie will sign each copy of her book, and also promises that the name of every fan who attended the signing will be printed in the front of her next book.
The title is currently held by former world chess champion, Anatoli Karpov, who signed 1,951 copies of his book in 8 hours in 2006. Katie's Guinness World Records attempt will be her 113th signing with Random House.
Katie said: "You know me, I've always had a competitive streak so when it was suggested that I try and break a Guinness World Record for a book signing, I thought, 'Bring it on!' I love meeting my fans and I can't wait to make them part of this world record. I really hope they will come out to support me in Leeds on 27 July and as a thank you I'm going to dedicate my next book to them and print all their names in the front."
Liz Smith, Records Manager at Guinness World Records, said: "To beat this world record is going to be tough, it has only been broken four times in the past 13 years and Katie will need to sign nearly 2000 books in one sitting, quite a feat. I'm looking forward to joining Katie and all her fans at the record attempt."
Fans will need to register for the event at the official website.
