BOOK REVIEW: Writing For Love by Chrissie Manby

Last week we posted about Writing For Love, the new writing guide by bestselling author Chrissie Manby. Chrissie has penned twenty novels, including Crazy in Love, Spa Wars and Royal Wedding-inspired Kate's Wedding. Her summer novel, What I Did On My Holidays, is also due for publication in June (we've read it already and it's absolutely fantastic!) and has also published several novels under the name Olivia Darling. Impressive? Certainly. Chrissie is one of my personal favourite authors so when I found out about Writing For Love, I rushed to download it to my Kindle.

Being a writer of chick-lit myself, I can never get enough of writing guides, especially those which edge towards chick-lit and romantic fiction. In Writing For Love, Chrisse begins by explaining how she started out as a writer, telling us in her usual charm how she began her career before going on to write commercial fiction. She also provides hints and tips for finding an agent and publisher, and explains more about the writing process and how she does it.

And then, there's the planning. In this book, Chrissie shares with us her tried and very much tested way of planning a novel using a rather interesting method. I won't give anything away here, but if you're one of those people who finds the prospect of planning a novel quite daunting - or maybe you're looking for a new way of planning altogether - then Chrissie's 'Consequences' method is VERY helpful. In fact, I'm about to try this myself as I usually take a very brief approach to the planning process, and I'm looking forward to seeing how this helps me improve. The charts are available at the back of the book (and will also be posted soon on Chrissie's website).

Writing For Love is a short yet very useful writing guide, drawing on Chrissie's own experiences as a bestselling author to provide some helpful information for those who dream of being published. Even if you're not an aspiring chick-lit novelist, Writing For Love is a great read for Chrissie Manby fans who would like to find out a bit more about the author. I'd highly recommend it.

Writing For Love also comes with an added treat - the first four chapters of new novel What I Did On My Holidays are included in this download! Enjoy.
